The manager of the household is also a full time job as it requires that bills be paid on time, food be purchased and stored, meals are cooked on time, school lunches are prepared, the house is clean and the laundry is done. Often, chores are assigned, but equally as often, the mantra of “if you want something done right, do it yourself” rings all too true. At times, the only way a job gets done and gets done properly is if you do it yourself.

The final aspect of this trilogy is the career. Everyone, even someone who elects to be a full-time mother, takes pride in their ability to have a career that they do well and takes great pride in their ability to handle all the other aspects of life and still have a rewarding successful time. With today’s woman, a career is something that can pay as much as your husband’s job does, provides immense personal satisfaction and sets the limits of how far you can go.

The glass ceiling is finally starting to shatter. Gone are the days when a woman was stuck once she reached a particular level. Look at the Forbes Magazine list of CEOs and other executives and you will see that women make up a sizeable number of leaders in many major companies. In fact, a recent survey of women in business done by the magazine showed that the companies eBay, Xerox, Lucent, Rite Aid, Morgan Stanley and Hewlett Packard all have women in the one of the top three positions in those companies.

On a smaller scale, women now compete with men in opening up entrepreneurial small businesses. These can include catering services, financial planning, lawyers in private practice and an array of consulting services. Women are now firmly ensconced in small and large businesses around the world.

If this sounds like you, the big question becomes: how do you juggle home, family and work? How does one or the other not suffer? In fact, many times, what ends up happening is that one area or another does suffer – unless you have a support network that you can rely on that helps out in the one area that usually most desperately needs help: the management of the home.

It truly is a Family Affair

By helping out in this area, by pitching in and pulling equal or close to equal weight, the entire family helps themselves and helps you with career choices. This is often overlooked as most of us tend to assume that the “house takes care of itself.” It comes as a shock to the rest of the family that “Mom” cannot keep up with all three careers. Mom can do anything after all!

The trick is to get everyone involved and participating in helping maintain an orderly living area. This is not as hard as it seems. Sometimes, if done properly, the rest of the house will not even notice that their role in housekeeping has increased.
